SUMMER/FALL SESSION

This session takes place in the beautiful Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, located in NW Wisconsin in Lake Superior.

Professionally guided and outfitted by Trek & Trail in Bayfield, participants will embark on a session rooted in travel by sea kayaks. No previous kayak experience is necessary. A three hour on-the-water training session will be conducted prior to heading out to allow participants to familarize themselves with their watercraft prior to heading out to photograph the magnificant islands that are part of our National Lakeshore status.

Our first night opens with a slide presentation with a stay in a local lodge or hotel. The next three days and nights are spent camping in the islands exploring historic lighthouses, sea caves, and sandy beaches. The sessions concludes with a lodge stay with participants' works being edited and presented in a evening slide program. All meals, lodging, tents and kayaks are included in the price of the workshop.

Our photographic approach to these workshops is simple. We cover our adventure trip as if it were a magazine assignment. Participants are given instruction on general points of coverage to document as well as specific creative assignments like the use of flash, motion, night imagery, portrait, landscape, ect., to be included as part of their visual story. A slide critique on the final evening ( a really fun night) allows open discussion on each participants photographic story.
