The Superior/Gunflint Photography Workshops combine the adventure of wilderness travel with the art of photography. It is designed for the serious photographer, fine art or editorial who appreciates the beauty and challenge of varied seasons. Most workshops take place in Northeastern Minnesota and Lake Superior regions. Traveling the scenic shores of Lake Superior's Apostle Islands to the pine laden forest of the Superior National Forest workshop participants will journey to a variety of natural environments documenting their experiences through the eye of their cameras. Winter session includes dogsledding trips out of Paul Schurke's Wintergreen Lodge in Ely, Minnesota. Participants drive their own team on the fringes of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. The summer/fall session includes sea kyaking in the Apostle Islands in Lake Superior out of Trek&Trail in Bayfield, WI. Also, we have added a July session out of Grand Marais, Minnesota along Lake Superior shores. Each night is spent in a new location. Seasoned professional guides accompany each respective session. The instructor is Layne Kennedy, a Minneapolis based magazine photographer. Layne's work is featured frequently in Smithsonian, Life, Outside, Audubon, Backpacker, Sports Illustrated, and National Geographic Special Publications. He will discuss necessary tools for shooting successful magazine images. A brief slide lecture will open the session followed with daily trail discussions.
